It’s a magical time of the year here in New York: that little lull where everyone is out enjoying the gorgeous weather with barbecues in the park and patio happy hours. Pretty soon, though, the city will morph into a humid sweatbox of misery, beginning the weekend mass exiles to the hip (and not-so-hip) areas of Long Island and beyond, leaving a few of us behind to search out locations with central air and pools not infested with copious amounts of bacteria. Personally, I have a long weekends in Montauk (private beach!) and Rhode Island (hello, beer) to look forward to, but I want to know– where are you going? Do you live in a vacation destination and don’t even need to leave? Should we be heading your way to check it out? Is it winter where you’re at, and you’ll be escaping the cold to somewhere a little more tropical? What resources are you using to plan your getaway? Tell us in the comments because after all– it’s Talk Shop Friday.

I just got back from orlando – disney. (Shut it.)

I was planning a long weekender in Arizona for memorial day weekend, but the tickets doubled in price before I could score a cheap fare. Now I’m thinking to get away to Charleston – and weekends on my friend’s rooftop deck in downtown Manhattan.

See, I like it in the summer when all the assholes leave New York in the summer – since the tourists stay in Midtown, it pretty much frees up Downtown for poor sods like me.

Headed to Paris in a week (only place that can compete with the city in springtime)…but otherwise, there are few summer destinations better than home: Montana!

I’m actually going to Oklahoma this summer to a catfish wrestling festival. Seriously. My boyfriend went a few years ago for an article he was writing, and apparently had a transformational experience. I guess you’ve never lived until you’ve had your arm swallowed by a gigantic fish and you wrestle it in a big tank.

Although Boulder has been splendid weather-wise lately, I’m excited to go to L.A. and Laguna Beach with my brother and some good friends next week. Going to try to see some art in L.A. before I head down the beach to the OC. It’ll be my first visit back to LB since I lived there back in the summer of 99. With all the hype it’s gotten on MTV, it’ll be interesting to see how/if it’s changed. I’m also heading up to Alaska in June– a first for me. Should be amazing up there– it will be light out pretty much all day/night long. Both of these trips are for weddings– my friends are dropping like flies these days!

Unfortunately, the furthest I’ll probably get is Long Beach (the one on Long Island, not CA). Can’t beat $17 for a roundtrip train ticket and beach access ticket.

Oh, the Beer Garden in Queens is always a worthwhile trip.

Seattle and Portland rock in the summer!

I’m heading to Kennebunkport for my 19th summer. It’s like the cape without the giant crowds. If you like copious amounts of lobster and Sperry Topsiders then K-port is key.

if you don’t mind the heat then south/central Texas is aweome…lots to do outside (camping, parties and beaches) and inside (art, amazing food, and more parties)
