When people know how they’re connected IRL, the app loses control over the means of communications and can’t charge for it. Another issue that some people don’t consider is that many people specifically don’t want to date in their circle of friends. It can be awkward and increases anxiety/baggage. The third issue, which Thread may address by leveraging a matchmaker is opt-in. Many online dating sites are successful with creating relationships specifically because, by signing up, their members are opting into the dating process. Trying to create relationships without that opt-in requires that someone or something get buy in from the people being matched. That’s something harder to do than many would expect.
