Hoards of people are currently using Twitter to say nothing, so it isn’t surprising there are more than a few who are anti-tweet. One of my favorite visual Twitter kiss-offs comes from Josh Holland via JoyEngine. Josh “cannot wait until Twitter goes the way of the slap bracelet and they’re talking about it on VH1’s I Love the 2000s.” (I’d say, “oh snap!” if I didn’t think that would get me on VH1 too.) If you share the sentiment, you can download the graphic above. Meanwhile Cypher13, aka the JoyEngine crew, set up an experimental micro-site for their own micro-blogging (in macro-font). But, there are some good uses for the technology. Like Shaq.

Editors Note: I don’t dislike twitter– in fact, I find it to be quite a powerful tool. You just need to fine tune it to hear the signal, not the noise. And I definitely don’t think it will go the way of the slap bracelet, we just thought it was a funny post. From time to time we like to open up a bit of a debate here, jump in and enjoy.

Just because lots of people don’t know how to use Twitter doesn’t mean it’s not valuable, right? I avoid sites like MySpace, Facebook and others. Yet, I believe Twitter is different. While I agree on the topic of useless Tweets by self-absorbed Tweeters, I think its a great tool when used correctly.

I too have resisted joining facebook and myspace.. mostly out of spite, and yet I find Twitter to be useful. As I was feeling it out in the beginning, I had a friend clear it up for me, why I like it. She said it’s a great tool for filtering what you want sent to you. I use it to “funnel” more like, and have updates and articles from sites and organizations I’m very interested that I couldn’t possibly have enough time to go and search out or track.

While I’m sure twitter is a useful tool, especially for marketing purposes (it personal promotion or campaign promotion) I have yet to make proper use of it. It just seems too cursory a channel.

If you follow the right people, you can learn a lot. I am not interested in when someone gets on and off the plane or if they bought a latte… but a bit of humanity amongst the weblinks is refreshing too.

“The way of the snap bracelet,” HA! Reminds me of friends 10 years ago that told me the internet was a fad. Microblogging (Twitter or not) is hear to stay. People probably told Aldus Manutius that books for regular people were a fad, too.

I told myself I wouldn’t post on here, but I simply couldn’t resist. I’m in complete agreement with Eric and Leigh – “useless Tweets by self-absorbed Tweeters” and “I am not interested when someone gets on and off the plane or if they bought a latte”. You guys must be following Josh Spear. LMAO

Twitter is just totally useless as far as I’m concerned. Although I’m not sure I blame the technology, per se, but the self-indulged individuals who think everyone cares about every minute of their lives. This sums it up for me:

Twitter is for losers!!! Exhibitionist losers who think people care one bit about the banal things they are doing. Josh, if you have a hires image of the anti-Twitter logo, I’d love to make some t-shirts.

Until then watch this, it’s funny:

Josh,

I totally agree with you about Twitter. In fact I posted a blog on Wednesday that shared my thoughts.

By the way, thanks for sharing the Flutter video–I loved it (and put it on my blog as well)
