Veek The Vote! - Josh Spear, Trendspotting

Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 7th, is election day. While this year is not the ‘biggie’ Presidential Election, it is every bit as important. Think of this blog post as a non-partison ‘kick in the ass’ to go vote tomorrow. Vote Democrat; vote Rebublican; vote Libertarian; but just VOTE. We need the will of the young people in this country to be reflected in our political representation on both local and national levels. Veek The Vote is adding some flare to election day. Urging ‘Don’t be a statistic on Election Day. Be an individual,’ Veek allows you to use your mobile phone’s video-cam feature to record your thoughts, experiences, and feelings on the elections. Once recorded, ping your message over to Veek The Vote at vote@veeker.com and they will distribute your message to veekthevote.com, YouthNoise.com, VEEKER.com, or even to your own website. This is a great way to bring to life what people are really thinking about politics during this election cycle.

Hi everyone in Josh Spear Land,

I wanted to check back in with you all for a little follow up on Veek The Vote 2006. We had a very successful project: over 750 veeks were pinged to us and then streamed in near real time to all of our associated embedded players.

We had contributors from all over the country who shared their thoughts on voting, political choices, opinions and analysis.

We hope that this is another step in the right direction to prove to more Americans that civic engagement really is exciting, powerful, and meaningful through emerging forms of participatory media.

Consider this, those 750 veeks got the notice of a Member of Congress.

“I appreciate the work that activists from across the country, like those on VeekTheVote.com, have done to identify existing problems, and to help protect the rights that we all enjoy,” states recently re-elected U.S. Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) about Veek the Vote 2006.
