Everyone who enjoys wine hopefully knows that wine tastes better when it has been aerated. Aeration basically exposes more of the volume of the wine to the air, allowing the vino to ‘breathe,’ thus counteracting the tannins in the wine. The result is a better bouquet, drawn out flavors, and a smoother finish. Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator is an inexpensive ($35) aeration device that requires only a quick pour through. In fact, an independent, double blind taste test determined that “the same bottle of wine treated with Vinturi was higher in overall flavor, intensity, and mouth-feel … higher in red color intensity and overall aroma intensity … more true to type and of higher quality.” With Christmas quickly approaching, you can utilize Vinturi’s overnight or second day shipping options to safely get this under the trees of all the winos in your life.

Of course aeration improves the aroma and flavor profiles of a red wine but I doubt that even your Vinturi Wine Aerator could result in “higher in red color intensity”. But then if we are doing a “blind” tasting, who knows, we might just miss that change in color.

i ordered this as a gift…just curious about the cracks… n e one else notice cracks in theirs??

Sean Sunday, 12.24.06 @ 12:25 am

Hmmm… I’m not sold on this concept. I’d rather just decant the wine for 1/2 hr to an hour and go from there. This just promotes the drinking of too-young wines or alters he taste of wines that are already flavourful enough.

This was the coolest gift…..the fizzing from the aeration system offered an instant “high” for the wine and the taster. I ordered more for my friends who have everything.

Melissa,

They’re really not cracks, they are vents to provide air in case the unit gets jammed in the decanter. Here’s a review that explains some of the “science” behind it.

Do you know if your gift recipient is enjoying it?

I like the idea of using some type of element to present your wines. If your ever interested in a wine aerator checkout our site at: http://www.finewinetoys.com

deSign Wine Aerator is a practical alternative to the traditional method of decanting wine, it allows the taste to be enhanced immediately before the wine is to be enjoyed. It also allows you the flexibility to aerate an entire bottle or simply one glass.

Hey Sean,

I have tried this and work in the wine business. We are all used to decanting and waiting 1/2 hr. for our wines to open. Believe me this does the same job almost instantly. Take it to a restaurant and no more waiting on a wine, providing you can get it decanted in a timely manner in the first place. Second bottles (or third) almost never get decanted in time. And it’s fun to do! Try it you will be a believer.

I agree with Sean. Why would I want to make my wine smoother and more flavorful? I only open wine that is properly aged and already had plenty of flavors.

Drew Wednesday, 10.24.07 @ 8:24 pm

I am a wine retailer and I get about twenty to thirty bottles a week for tasting. This device let’s me know what they will taste like after the customer takes the bottle home for proper decanting. I agree that proper decanting is the proper way to treat your wines, but this device let’s me show the customer what they will get when they get home. Great device for quick tasting and to make good decisions on what I or they should buy.

My husband is a wine snob. We purchased the vinturi wine aerator with three other couples while wine tasting in Napa one month ago. I’ve never seen my husband so happy with any gadget he has ever had. The difference in taste once the wine flows thru the aerator is incredible. Yes, of course, we decant, however, we drink wine on a daily basis so we don’t want to decant for us two, then wait 1/2 hour. Plus, when we have friends over, we can’t decant in advance every bottle we open!! Sometimes 6 of us will drink 6 bottles or 8 bottles, so having the aerator is perfect. We’ve purchased 12 vinturi aerators as christmas presents, it’s really a perfect gift.

Look I do not care if you are blind or if you can see. All wine needs to breath or did I not get this correctly, and When you can smell the difference and taste the difference and you are happy with what the end result is then you be the judge and if you have not tried it then I am sorry for you, your Loss. I love it and change is a good thing as long as it is positive. Sorry to all those who can not except a new idea.

I recently found a product from a danish company that does exactly the same, only you attach it directly to the bottle – almost as a pourer. This way you get the same effect without the hazzle of pouring it through an “external” device.

The product is called SpinWine – have a look at it here

As a wine accessory, I can’t say it’s a necessity or that you’ll like every wine more after you use it. But it looks great, is very unique, is fun to play with, is a great conversation piece and with a price tag under $40, I think it’s a great gift for a wine lover who already has all of the essentials.

REVIEW: Vinturi Wine Aerator

sandy Saturday, 02.06.10 @ 10:59 pm

we have one and love it….just wondering why ours has a small mesh filter cup that sits in the top of the aerator….and any others I have seen don’t have any filter at all???

John Saturday, 05.22.10 @ 2:30 pm

Sandy,
The information (instruction) sheet provided with the unit calls it a sediment
filter and says: “Place the sediment filter in the top of Venturi if Required”.

If your bottle of old wine has sediment use the filter to remove it before it
clogs the Venturi.
