Legendary graffiti artist Vulcan was recently commissioned to paint a line of servers for Google in conjunction with his solo show that recently opened on the company’s Mountain View Campus. You can browse the work from the show on Vulcan’s site and purchase some of his work via Google Checkout, naturally. Awesome to see such a huge company like Google staying grounded by supporting the arts. More shots of the super-sexy limited edition servers after the jump.

OK, so now Google supports the arts. I’m all for it.

But, this brings up something that has been bugging me for years. Why can’t Google employ a crack team of designers? For their meat & potatoes type work - like their logo, and their zillion entities - reader, gmail, etc. Their technology is poorly presented by their visual interface. I wish they would put as much effort into their visual design as in their technology.

I agree with that. Even though they offer the most efficient system, some graphical upgrades would make the top of the line product even better. M$ can only manage to stay on par by offering a ‘cool’ looking interface (of which I’m not really a fan of). Perhaps more concious of color theory would make Google cooler, although I am sure for viable reasons they won’t (making some people not used to a typical already known interface scares some)

Fear of change. A place is only as smart as their adaption to changes. This is truly a cool piece though, way cooler than any other technology company has done in terms of art.

No offense, but I think they look horrible.

they only look horrible if you support clean trains. Vulcan is a legend in street art and its very exciting to see google embrace him!

It is great that Google has embraced Vulcans work but Kurt is right. This looks horrible. These servers are not very flattering surfaces.
Is anyone here actually familar with Vulcans work? The WHOLE cars on the 2 & 5 line’s, the BIG (aerosol kingdom) wall at the Hall of Fame or the Twisted Sister wall. Vulcan’s best work all have something in common, they were all pretty massive in scale. This like giving Monet a match book cover and a paint brush and telling him to get busy. It’s not going to fit or work.
I’m surprised with all the daily updated design on Googles’ search engine
I would think they’d find a more creative way to showcase Vulcan’s work while maintaining it’s true ingrity. It’s also be nice if it were made more accessible to Google users.
Just my thoughts. My hat off to Vulcan none the less.

Looks good. Josh, I don’t see the pictures you posted here on Vulcan’s site?
